Also known as The Adoration of the Mystic Lamb, the artwork is a polyptych, meaning it is made up of multiple panels connected by hinges. The painting unfolds the story of Christianity through scenes of Adam and Eve, singing angels, the enthroned Virgin Mary, the Annunciation and Christ’s sacrifice. At its centre, the “Mystic Lamb” bleeds into the Holy Grail, set upon an altar in a sacred meadow.
