Hegseth has tattooed on his chest the Jerusalem Cross. Alt-right and white supremacist groups have adopted symbolism associated with the Crusades. That includes the Jerusalem Cross and the motto “Deus Vult.” Hegseth has that motto tattooed on the inside of his bicep.
