Several articles and letters to the editor have maintained that the actions of ICE in Minnesota are unconstitutional and/or unlawful (“Blame chaos on ICE cruelty, not protesters,” Jan. 28). Claims are made that ICE should withdraw from Minnesota or be abolished altogether. The tragic deaths of two people are argued to be proof of an agency out of control. The claims are without merit. First, the Supremacy Clause of the Constitution makes clear that if there is any discrepancy between federal and state laws, federal laws supersede.
