Ministers have said they will consult on a social media ban for under-16s and toughen up rules on mobile phones in schools in an attempt to see off a backbench rebellion by more than 60 Labour MPs. In the letter, shared with The Times, Phillipson said: “All schools should be phone-free environments for the entire school day. It is not appropriate for phones to be used as calculators or for research during lessons.
