So what is to be done? Maccabi’s decision not to sell tickets for this fixture on safety grounds is totally understandable. The club has a duty of care to its fans and they can hardly encourage them to visit the UK in the absence of adequate protection. Given Maccabi’s decision there is not that much point in the Government overruling the ban, though I am pleased to say that there appeared to be unusual cross-party support at Westminster for such a course.
