PRAGUE – As coalition talks intensify following Czechia’s parliamentary elections, the right-wing populist Motorists party is seeking a major role in government – including the foreign ministry portfolio. Andrej Babiš’s populist ANO movement won the 3–4 October elections with 34.5% of the vote, securing 80 of 200 lower-house seats. To form a majority, Babiš is in negotiations with two smaller parties: Tomio Okamura’s far-right SPD party, and the newly ascendant Motorists party. Together, the three parties would have 108 seats.
