Professors at Harvard University are suing the Trump administration, alleging the threat to withhold billions of dollars of federal funding undermines the university’s academic integrity. The lawsuit, filed in federal court in Boston on Friday, charges the administration with attempting to “coerce universities into undermining free speech and academic inquiry in service of the government’s political or policy preferences.” The Trump administration ordered a review of $8.7 billion in grants and $225.6 million in federal contracts at Harvard, in what it says is an effort to “root out antisemitism” at the university.
