Hage Geingob, Namibia’s president and founding prime minister, died early on Sunday in a hospital in the capital, Windhoek, while receiving treatment for cancer. He was 82. Geingob revealed his cancer diagnosis last month. Geingob underwent brain surgery in 2013 and an aortic operation in neighbouring South Africa in 2023.
