When Barney Pell Scholes was looking for an idea for his next film, he delved into family folklore. Growing up in the Sefton Park area, Barney would hear about his Jewish grandparents' shop on Smithdown Road. Chiefly, he was told about the time in 1947 when his grandad Louis Scholnick donned his RAF uniform to defend the store from a violent anti-Semitic mob. Louis had served in the air force during WWII.
