Campus demonstrations in the wake of the Hamas terrorist attacks against Israeli citizens have demonstrated a lack of plain common decency. The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution states that “Congress shall make no law…abridging…the right of the people peaceably to assemble.” There is a long tradition of campus gatherings to support and oppose innumerable events and issues. Staging such gatherings to either support Hamas or “explain and provide context” for the slaughter of Israeli civilians have demonstrated both a remarkable lack of understanding of human emotion and a promotion of bigotry.
