Of all the stories associated with Chaddlewood House one of the most quirky episodes on its very varied timeline is the period it was deployed as 137 German Prisoner of War Camp. It’s hard now to imagine, but, in September 1946, more than a year after the war in Europe had ended, there were over 400,000 German PoWs in this country, with many more held captive in Russia, France and other parts of Europe.
