A controversial big-rig truck depot opened in Harlem this morning — months after plans fell through for a large-scale housing complex at the site. The first trucks rolled into the depot on 145th Street between Malcolm X Blvd. and Adam Clayton Powell Blvd around 10:30 a.m. The developer, Bruce Teitelbaum, had initially planned to build two residential towers at the site containing 917 apartments, roughly half of which would’ve been income-restricted and set aside for low- and middle-income New Yorkers.
