The Asheville Citizen Times carried the story of the death of the German philosopher, Juergen Habermas, on Monday, March 16. Philosophers do not get much public attention, but the paper gave him good coverage. I heard his name in association with other German scholars, but the story of Habermas caught my attention because he was born the same year as me (1929) and he had similar concerns as I have. I associate his name with other German thinkers after World War II. Especially important is that his biographer’s (Felsch) last visit to him in 2023 reflected Habermas’ fear of the...
