This is, to put it mildly, a stretch. Several elements of The Ed Gein Story are either wild exaggerations or pure invention. Sexual encounters and murders that never happened are depicted in lurid detail; innocent people are implicated in Gein’s atrocities; even Alfred Hitchcock comes in for a reputational drubbing. In one respect, this is quite an achievement: Netflix has taken one of the grisliest serial killer stories of the 20th century and somehow made it even more twisted.
