Built from 1936 to 1945, about 45 intact Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress remain. Today, less than 10 are estimated to still be airworthy. There were 12,731 B-17s produced in total, of which 4,735 were destroyed in action during World War II. Museums primarily house B-17s that are in one piece but incapable of flight.
