Thousands of motorists pass by Am Echod Cemetery in Waukegan daily with little notice of the graveyard. That changed this week. The small Jewish cemetery, tucked behind twin redbrick pillars and next to Grand Avenue, just east of Green Bay Road, was the target of vandals earlier this week who defaced 39 graves with bright red spray paint, Clifford Ward reported in Tuesday’s News-Sun.
